There has been talk of a Rubicon trip this summer. I will most likely go if it happens. I have heard early July for a general time but I would like to set a date to get things going. So who wants to go?

How long (total trip duration) is a typical Rubicon trip?

I would say at least 4 days, but I have never done the whole trail either.

X3, maybe us three could work something out? Split gas and stuff to make it cheaper?

I would like to lead a run down there this summer. The trail can be done in one long day if you have a capable rig and no breakdowns. It is way more fun if you take your time. I would plan on at least five days if you can. Travel time is twelve hours if you can hold freeway speeds. The camping and hiking is very nice and it is easy to fill your days. There are several pristine lakes along the way to swim in. In July and August these are much appreciated.
If you are pretty sure you would be interested in going, please look at your schedules and see what dates you could not go. I am leaning towards early July.

I have no preference on dates as long as it is mid summer.

Anytime is okay with me. Later may be better as far as getting my fur-runner up to snuff.

I am shooting for June 30 through July 5th. I have a four day weekend already. I will take one additional vacation day on the 1st if the man will let me. I will find out on March 8th if I get it or not. Lets do it.

Isn't it going to be crazy busy on the 4th weekend? Sam said something about a traffic jam on the trail at midnight.

That may be a good way to get the time off though. Might be kinda fun. I would go for that if I can.

I imagine it will be busy that weekend, but most weekends are busy in the summer, especially since they closed all the side stuff.

That's funny. I was looking through the pictures and I spotted this rig:

Which turns out to be a rig that we saw in Moab in '08:

It's funny, Lucie had us all hold those kittens for a picture. Sam said those kittens grew into cats that are now afraid of lint, let alone the sound of motors. So no kittens on this trip.

I am planning to leave Wednesday night June 30th at 4pm. We should arrive there in the wee hours of the morning Thursday. I will be returning on Monday July fifth. There are two options for camping. We can camp at the trail head. This is nice because you can tow down, but dont have to leave your rig anywhere over night and I can take my camper. The other option is to camp on the trail. This is fun also, but you have to wheel a good portion of the trail with your rig heavily loaded with gear. This can make a big difference. Anyone have a preference?  What are you and Sam thinking Greg?
