Hey Everyone~

Just to make sure everyone knows, I announced last night at the club meeting that I'll be stepping down from my position as our "Group Leader". I've enjoyed the position for something like 7 years or so... However, I feel it is in the best interest of the club to have more leadership from other members. We all can contribute to our group and having a change in leadership will keep things moving forward and interesting.

Last night we decided as a group that having revolving leaders might work well. So starting in January 2010, a new group leader will take over. For now, Greggy-Pooh and I will share the role and will be working with all of you to decide how this will work and who will go first. The idea so far is that each new leader will be in the position for 3 months.

Group leader responsibilities are pretty simple. In my time, I've lead the club meeting by introducing new members, discussing past events, planning new one's, and discussing peoples recent projects... Other responsibilities have included being a spokesperson for the club during clean-ups, trail projects, forestry meetings, etc. (however, we've laid pretty low on these things this last year)...

I look forward to working on smaller projects like getting t-shirts made, and I plan to be as involved as I can. You guys are all great friends, and I'm really glad we've got such a good thing with MVC...

Thanks Everyone...

At guess at this point we should decide on how to pick the next leader. We could get a list of volenteers and vote on who gets to be it. Or we could just have the last one leading pick the next, or even pickout of a group of volunteers. What does everyone think?

In that last post I meant the leader could pick out of a group of volunteers. I also though we could even make it the fist to volunteer after a set time. We have always been real unformal, but if we are going to have changing leaders, do we want to make a more formal assignment of duties for the leader, or the meetings?

I'd like to see a rotation list created and populated by each person that wants to be a club member (not a volunteer list)... It could be our way to pay your dues...

Second thought would be to make it 'nice' for the "trail master" position. One idea would be to do a 50/50 raffle where the "trail master" / leader gets 50% and the winner gets the other 50% Thus we as a group could buy the leader's dinner for the 3 months they're on rotation. I'm thinking $1 for each person attending meeting. Leaders with good skills that get more people to the meeting gets more dinner money...

... just a rough idea for discussion.

I would be willing to throw my hat in the ring for a leadership role. The only problem is that I work odd hours and often I can't make it to the club meetings. I like the idea of a rotation though, then the burden isn't placed on one person.

Hope recruited a new person the other day. He owns the Black Rock Coffee stand on Lancaster. I guess he wheels a Toyota (big bonus points) and has done the Rubicon and wheeled Moab. I gave her a card to give him and wrote down where the meetings are held so hopefully he will start attending :).

I was thinking about it, although I like the idea of really getting club members involved, the advantage of the volunteer part is that get people who are really interested in the leadership role. IU just don't know how much leadership we would get out of someone who rally does not want that role. It would be kinda fun to make a " trail master", seperate from the leader role, for each period that came out of a pool of everybody who wants to be a member, that had to be reponsible for coming up with and leading one or two runs for each period.

I think we gotta keep things loose or MVC looses its flavor. I would like to lead more runs and I wouldnt mind leading a meeting now and then but I am so busy all the time its hard to dedicate much time to.

Good discussions folks!

I've always wanted to get more people to lead runs, and that has happened to some degree over the last few years. It takes some time to research the area and plan it, but it'd be great to get more people doing this! Having different trail leaders definitely changes it up and would be a good thing!

I'm thinking along the same lines as Dave. Keep it loose, informal. and on a volunteer basis. I don't think that making someone lead who doesn't want to would benefit anybody. And yes, I'd volunteer.

BTW, thanks again Davey for all you've done for the club! I appreciate it alot.

I wasn't thinking in the lines of being too formal either. This is mainly about choosing a system to pick our usual spokesman/meeting leader. I was just thinking, while we are switching things up a bit, in the past we used to go on quit a few random runs, but the last year or two we have all gotten busy enough that we haven't wheeled as much. I just thought it would be kinda neat if we picked one of us, during the rotation, to maybe work on setting up and leading a couple official club runs. We could just encourage the sitting "leader" to do this, or just keep throwing it out there at meeting to see if anybody wants to go wheel, but I was just thinking it might be fun to do somthing to inspire a few more runs to happen. While we still have places to go wheel. What do everyone think? Discuss..........

More club runs would be a good thing. I wish we had more places to wheel .

I'm done being up front, I don't want to do it. However...I wouldn't mind running the volunteer list for the meeting rotations or helping out in other 'support roles'.
